Are Pecans Sold Raw?
Most nuts that you buy in the supermarket have already been roasted, most commonly in oil. Raw pecans contain a few calories, but not many. Despite this, most nuts that are sold as “raw” have been soaked or dried to remove harmful substances.
These raw pecans are 100% natural and free of salt, sugar, preservatives, and any other additives, as with all of our nut and dried fruit products.
How can you tell if pecans are raw?
Check for ripeness. When the green hulls break open on the tree, dropping the nuts in their shells to the ground, pecans are ready to harvest. When you find pecans on the ground, it’s time to gather them (or the squirrels will beat you to it).
Do you wash pecans before eating?
Pecans must be shelled and cleaned before use, whether you prefer to eat them plain or roasted, or use them in your favorite pecan pie recipe.
